Education – Don’t ever quit

Many of us grew up on farms or had grandparents who lived on a farm. We were more aware of the cycle of the seasons. Winter was a time to catch up on left over things from the fall and to get ready for spring. Auctioneering has a cycle too. Traditionally there aren’t many auctions in the winter. Winter auctions are quite often very good auctions because people are always looking for something to do to get out of the house and shake off the cabin fever that most of us get. The fact remains, however, that a lot of auctioneers have time on their hands in the winter.

So what does an auctioneer do with the extra time. Hopefully use it to be better prepared for the next season. This winter I have gone to school to get my Realtor’s license. This involves 90 hours of instruction and requires passing both the State and National exams. Having this license will give me another way to serve my customers better. Many times a person in charge of handling an estate will have property to dispose of in addition to all the household goods. What better way to do this than to sell both kinds of items on an auction.

It has been challenging to get back into a classroom and start to study again, but is has been rewarding and energizing to in a group of people who are all motivated to do something new. If you have been thinking about learning something new, go out and do it. It really is never too late to learn.
