We will be conducting a “Tag Sale” at 9 Fareway Drive in Northfield this weekend. There will be many unusual items including musical intruments, car parts, model cars, antique glassware, and tools. The sale will run from 8:00 AM-2:00 PM on Saturday and from 8:00 AM- Noon Sunday.

Wilbur and Eva Marie Bergstrom & Marcella Pelkey Auction - Cannon Falls -September 26 10:00 AM

Wilbur and Eva Marie Bergstrom have moved and together with Marcella Pelkey they will be selling a large number of items at auction on Saturday, September 26 at their home at 426 E Hoffman in Cannon Falls. Wilbur worked in maintenance for many years and has a wide assortment of hand and shop tools. Wilbur also was in the lock and key business for 12 years and he is selling his entire inventory of key making tools and equipment as one lot in the auction. This includes four keymaking machines, 6000 key blanks, locks, sets, cylinders, pins, books and manuals, tools for opening car doors and trunks, and all sorts of related items. Wilbur and Marcella were avid collectors of all sorts of items. Included in the auction will be collections of cast iron banks, Santas, teapots, snowmen, chickens, pencils, slippers, and rabbits. Antiques include a picture of the Spiral Bridge in Hastings, an old shelf clock, lamp tables, an original pump organ from a church in Kenyon, and many other interesting items too numerous to mention. Marigold Days in Mantorville, September 12 & 13

Don’t forget to enjoy one last good flea market this summer. This is the big weekend in Mantorville. Vendors are coming from all over to the park to set up their tents with all sorts of antiques and collectibles. The shops will all be open and ready to greet you. Three restaurants, Art Guild, theater, tours, antique shops, parade. Mantorville has it all. Come and see.

You have probably read about my attempts to re-brand myself as a downsizing consultant. As a part of this, I am offering other services in addition to my traditional auctioneering. I am working with a client who had a huge collection of vintage magazines. I will be bringing them to the Gold Rush Days flea market in Oronoco this weekend. I will have over a thousand vintage magazines. McCalls, Better Homes and Gardens, American Home, Saturday Evening Post, Look, Life, numerous Railroad magazines, American Rifleman, Fur Fish and Game, Argosy, many movie magazines from the 30’s, Reader’s Digest, Coronet, and National Geographic from World War II, Collier’s, Farm Journal, Successful Farming, vintage service station maps from the 30’s, railroad timetables, paper ephemera, 1920’s Mah Jong set, advertising, calendars, lots of political buttons, costume jewelry, buttons, collectibles of all sorts. I will be set up under the Pine Trees, just east of the school house. Hope to see you there.

I am back to the drawing board for a name for my new service for helping people to downsize or move. Much to my surprise, I found out that “Moving Solutions” has already been registered and trademarked by a company in Pennsylvania that provides similar services. I will be providing the services that I described, but I will be looking for a different name that hasn’t already been taken.

“The times, they are a changin”. Remember that song from the distant past? “The more things change, the more things stay the same” Do you remember that old saying. Well both of these are true when it comes time to disperse the lifetime collection of stuff that most of us have accumulated. I have been conducting auctions for 28 years. While everyone still needs to get rid of stuff, the methods available for doing this have changed. Sometimes a person just doesn’t have enough to have their own auction, sometimes the townhome association won’t let you have an auction. Sometimes you just need some help moving, but don’t have relatives near.

Welcome to “Moving Solutions”, a new service that specializes in helping people who need to move or downsize. The possessions that have taken a lifetime to collect can pose a challenge when circumstances force a person to make a sudden change in residence. Our goal is to help you make this change as painless as possible.

We offer a number of options, including:

Working with you to develop a downsizing plan

Organizing, sorting, and prioritizing

Arranging for dispersal of unneeded or excess items through auction, estate sale, purchase, or consignment

Arranging for shipment or storage of items

Related services such as waste removal, emptying and preparing a home to be sold.

Fourth of July Flea Market

Looking for something interesting to do on July 4th. Look no farther. We are having a flea market in Northfield in Ames Park (right next to the river in downtown Northfield) This is the fifth year for the flea market and it gets better each year. We have a number of vendors selling all sorts of antiques, collectibles, vintage items, jewelry, knick-knacks, furniture, etc. The flea market starts at 9:00 AM, but I bet you will find people down there shortly after dawn. Come and spend the day in Northfield, watch the bike races, come to the flea market, enjoy the food, listen to the music, stay for the fireworks, and dance later. Sarah Ptacek Benefit Auction - June 13

On Saturday, June 13, we will be conducting a fundraiser auction for Sarah Ptacek. Sarah is a 28 year old single woman diagnosed with breast cancer. Surgeries and treatments have left her with many uncovered medical expenses. The fundraiser will be held at the American Legion in Byron, Minnesota. Byron is 8 miles west of Rochester on Highway 14. The event will start with a BBQ pork supper from 4:30pm - 7:30 pm. The supper will be provided by Vern and Anita Nelsen. Tickets are $15 at the door. There will be a silent auction from 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm, followed by a live auction from 7:30pm - 8:30 pm, and after that, live music by Furious George from 9:00 pm - midnight. There are many very nice auction items that have already been donated including airplane rides, a goose hunting experience, Twins tickets, and many, many others. Jean Boardman Estate Sale: Northfield, MN

On February 28 and March 1, we are privileged to be able to conduct one of the finest estate sales that you will see this year in Northfield. The sale will be held to settle the estate of Jean Boardman of Northfield. The sale starts at 8:00 AM each day. The sale will be held at the Boardman family home at 611 Prairie Street in Northfield. The estate sale will be held indoors (shoes off, so bring slippers if you wish). The Boardman’s traveled extensively and there are many, many nice items from around the world, in addition to fine antiques and china, local pottery. I have included some pictures that are an indication of what you will find. As you can see, one of the items is a nice Jet tablesaw. There is also a snowthrower, lawn mower, hand tools, yard and garden tools, a nice antique settee, Royal Worcester dishes, many pictures and prints, silver and silverplate, Halling pottery, very nice stemware, upholstered arm chairs, two nice couches, several very nice beds, lots of linens, nice Norwegian sweaters, an incredible number of books including first editions and author signed copies, filing cabinets and office supplies and much, much more.
