On Thursday February 19 I was pleased to be able to conduct a small live fundraising auction for the Northfield Rotary Club. Please be sure to look at the photos in the photo gallery (look under “Upcoming Auctions” even though it has already happened. Everyone looked like they were having a good time. The food was great and the conversation was even better. So much better, in fact, that I had to shout at the top of my lungs to be heard. There were lots of really nice donated items and it was a great event. There were a lot of nice sized checks written to Rotary. Rebecca Bazan and the auction committee did a great job getting everything set up. Thank you to all the donors and workers who made this auction a success. Thank you also to the buyers. After all, it wouldn’t be much fun without buyers.

Rotary Club

Last Thursday I attended the noon luncheon for the Northfield Rotary Club. Rotary is a service organization that raises money for worthwhile community projects. While I was at the luncheon, the Rotary Club made a $10,000 donation to the Mill Towns bicycle trail. I will be conducting a live auction for Rotary on Thursday evening at the Northfield Golf Club. We had a “warmup” auction on Thursday noon. Member Charlie Cogan donated his services to give tennis lessons. We sold 24 tennis lessons for $25 per lesson raising $600. The Thursday night event will feature both a live and silent auction and the auction is open to the public. Now that the days are starting to get longer, it is easier to start thinking about more outdoor auctions. There should be quite a few this spring.

Outdoor auction in February !!!

DSC00004.JPG DSC00005.JPG
Well we had quite an auction on Saturday, February 7 in Northfield. The auction was for the Charles Weeks estate and was held at the Weeks house at 217 North Linden in Northfield. Many people made comments about this charming old house, which must be one of the oldest in the West side of Northfield. The weather was perfect for February. The day was sunny, and there was no wind. It actually felt warm on the south side of the house. We had a good crowd. The bidding was spirited. A pair of brass “dog” bookends sold for $37.50. The green depression glass brought good prices, with a paneled cream and sugar bringing $45. The teapots sold well. The “Hall” teapot which was shaped like a “doughnut” sold for $225. The oak secretaries brought $675 and $725. A “Seth Thomas“ shelf clock brought $275. It was such a nice day that it was nice to have an excuse to be outside. We had a good crowd right up to the end of the auction. Everyone seemed to be having a good time and looking forward to more good auctions this spring.

Charles Weeks Estate Auction - February 7 - 12 NOON

DSC00124.JPG DSC00126.JPG

These are two more pictures of some of the nice antiques we will be selling at the Charles Weeks Estate Auction at 217 N. Linden St in Northfield at 12 noon on Saturday February 7. You can see 20 pictures in the photo gallery. Notice the nice green depression glass on the round oak table. This will be an outside auction. There is a two car garage and I will have a Knipco type heater running in the garage so you will have a place to warm up. Be sure to dress warm and wear boots. There will be a warm lunch available at the auction. In addition to the 200+ teapots, the depression glass, and the oak secretaries, and the china cabinet, and the round oak table, and the serpentine front dresser, and the lamp tables and rockers, and the Seth Thomas clock, there are some nice tools, garage items, a wood lathe, two nice ladders, and a Graco airless paint sprayer. We will be selling fast so be sure to be on time. Plan now to join us and have some fun at the auction.
