I just returned from a week at the Rice County Fair in Faribault. This is always a fun event. The Fair Board and Jim Hermel always do a great job. This fair does a lot to honor the rural heritage of Rice County. Rice County has a strong 4-H program and I was pleased to be able to help with the annual 4-H auction which was a rousing success. You don’t often get to sell a chicken for over $500. When they dress this chicken, it should be in a tuxedo. Be sure to look at our photo gallery.

On Saturday, August 14 at 11:00 AM, we will be conducting an auction for Scott Van Hooser in Rochester. This auction will be at Scott’s house at #19 12th Ave NW. This is just North of the Canadian Honker Restaurant. Scott has the most amazing collection of seasonal decorations that I have ever seen. Literally thousands of decorative items for all seasons: Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Autumn, July 4, etc. He has a huge collection of Dept 56 village houses, many many pieces of depression era glass, nice antique furniture and trunks, yard and garden items, nice artwork, camping items, and nice housewares. This will be a really nice auction. Plan now to attend. Check out the photo gallery for some pictures of the glassware, table, and buffet.

On Wednesday August 4 we will be conducting an auction for Tom and Gloria Porter at their home in rural Northfield. The Porters are moving to town and will be selling some lovely antiques and household goods. This will be an afternoon auction, starting at 5:00 PM. In addition to the beautiful antique round oak table, buffet and chairs, there will be wildlife art, sporting goods including Patty Berg golf clubs, skiis and snowshoes. There will be lots of household goods, an antique croquet set, depression era glass, and lots of other nice things. Hope to see you at the auction.

Well, it’s almost time for the Rice County Fair again. The fair starts next Tuesday and runs until Sunday, July 25. I will be having a booth again this year. I will be conducting numerous auctions during the fair on the demonstration stage in the commercial building. Auction items are being donated by The Turkey Store and Faribault Foods with proceeds going to the Rice County 4-H. Tell your friends and be sure to stop at my booth, say hi, and tell me if you saw this on the website.
